In math we use coins for a lot of different activities. I would appreciate it if
each of you could send in 10 pennies, 5 nickels & 10 dimes. Your child will have their
own “piggy bank” to store their coinsby

Continue working with your child on their number formation (there are a lot of
reversals!)….they should be able to write numbers to 50 by themselves.
Continue working on the sight words that
were on the back of last week’s newsletter.
Your child needs to know those words instantly
when they see them— not by sounding
    them out….or doing the “hummmm…”
waiting for you to help. If your child
    doesn’t know —the
    go thrwough
    ordthe s
words having you say them & then they
repeat them until they DO know them!
Please try to read with your child
10— 20 min. each day. At first grade
this does include reading wordlists, the small run
-off books and you reading to them. I have in-
cluded a paper for you to write down books that
    you are reading at home.
We are working on word families (rimes)
to help us read words. Recognizing a rime allows
us to read & write many words just by changing
the initial (beginning) sound (example: cat, hat,
    mat, lap, map, nap).

Work Stations are in full swing
this week. Your child goes to
one station area a day and
    works together to complete 3
    activities. Please review the
    importance of working
    (and NOT playing) during station
    time.
    Thanks for your support in
    helping these go smoothly
    and successfully.
