All About Math!
We have been very busy learning all kinds of
new math concepts. The students need to
make sure they know their multiplication facts.
If they don’t know them, they need to be
practicing them every night. It’s crucial they
know these automatically because the material
is going in more depth with factors. In
October, the students will be in Unit 3 in
everyday math. The focus is data and angle
measures (geometry). The students will
normally have one page of math homework a
night. Sometimes the teacher may assign an
online math game for the students to do at
home.
The fifth grade students are also taking their
formative state practice tests on the computer
once a week. We are using their results to
help us focus on concepts they need more
practice on. This will help all our students be
more successful and feel more comfortable
taking the state assessments when it is time.

Great Plains Nature Center
Students Enjoy a Science Filled Day
On September 15
th
, the 5
th
grade students
attended Great Plains Nature Center in Wichita
for a day filled with Science and nature. While
it was a bit cold outside, the students tried to
be tough and hung in there to learn about the
solar system, water cycle, amphibians, and
migration. They also went on a nature hike
and saw animal tracks, a beaver dam, muscle
shells, and learned about many various types
of flowers and weeds. 5
th
grade student, Vivi
Moreno, said, “It was cool because they had a
wetland that we could walk on and animals
were just roaming around.”

Literacy First!
This year in fifth grade students are
working in workstations that focus on
standard based skills each week. The
majority of Reading grades come out of
the accountability piece during the work
stations. It is important the students are
focused and on task so they get all of their
work done.
